Puerto Rico, the gateway to the Caribbean. Filled with history, rainforests, and some of the best beaches in the world, Puerto Rico is not an island to miss. Check out my tips & tricks for making the most of your time on this small island.

THE BASICS

When to go

Because of its proximity to the equator, the weather in Puerto Rico doesn’t vary much at any point throughout the year. I personally traveled here over Thanksgiving in which it was around 85 degrees Fahrenheit the whole trip.

What to do

  • Visit the Forts: Power in Puerto Rico has changed hands many times throughout its history, and much of the history can still be seen in the forts in Old San Juan.
  • Trek in the Rainforest: Puerto Rico has the only rainforest in the United States, and it takes up a good chunk of the mainland. Spend a day adventuring through the rainforest and learning about its ecosystem.
  • Relax on the Beaches: Puerto Rico is full of stunning beaches with white sand and aquamarine waters. Be sure to enjoy some well-deserved R&R on your trip down here.
