ECUADOR
THE BASICS
Ecuador, named for the fact that the equator runs directly through it, is best known by travelers for the Galapagos Islands that are offshore to the west. But what many people don’t realize is that mainland Ecuador has a lot to offer. Whether you want to explore cities and jungles, or hike up a volcano, mainland Ecuador has it all.
When to go
Because it sits on the equator, the weather in Ecuador doesn’t change drastically all year round. I personally traveled there in November and while we were caught in a couple of rainstorms throughout the week, it never impeded on our schedule at all.
What to do
- Rappel a Waterfall: Baños de Agua Santa is the adventure capital of Ecuador, and for good reason. Book a waterfall rappelling tour and swim, jump, and zipline your way through the waterfall system.
- Go Hiking: All across Ecuador are spots for some of the most unbelievable hiking you’ll experience. Whether that’s in Quilotoa Crater or the Cotopaxi Volcano, be sure to take a once-in-a-lifetime hike in Ecuador.
