SAYULITA
THE BASICS
Sayulita is a small surf town about one hour north of Puerto Vallarta in the Nayarit state on the west coast of Mexico. With multiple beaches, delicious restaurants, and a very laid-back atmosphere, Sayulita is perfect for solo travelers, families, and large groups alike. I was lucky enough to go on both a bachelorette and couples’ trip there, and we found plenty of activities to do for both trips.
When to go
This small, fun, and extremely safe town is consistently hovering around 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, making Sayulita perfect almost any time of year, depending on what you’re looking for. I personally traveled there for ten days in April and the weather was around 80 degrees and consistently sunny every single day.
What to do
- Go Surfing: Sayulita is known for its great surfing. Right on Playa de Sayulita (Sayulita Beach) you can either rent a board for about $7.50 USD for two hours or take a surfing lesson with a group, depending on your skill level.
- Take a Boat Tour to Las Marietas Islands: Through the local boat tour company, Ally Cat Sailing, you can do a whale watching boat tour of Las Marietas Islands, the Mexican National Park off the coast of Sayulita. Las Marietas is also home to Hidden Beach, which is a local tourist attraction and a must-see in the area.
- Explore the Beaches: Some of my favorite beaches in the area were Playa de Sayulita, Playa de Los Muertos, Playa Malpaso, and Playa de San Francisco. You can’t go wrong with just spending a day at the beach with a margarita in-hand watching the surfers
