NORTH AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN
THE BASICS
North America has plenty to offer both the adventurous and city-slicking traveler. My entire life I’ve called North America home, but I’ve lived on both coasts as well as in the Midwest and can guarantee that no matter what state or country you choose, you can find something unique.
When to go
Due to its size, North America can be a great place to travel all year round. Below I try to break it down a bit by season:
- Winter: If you like winter sports, the Rockies and Canada are perfect in the winter. If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, New York is always a great idea. If you want to get out of the cold, head to American South or the Caribbean.
- Spring: The cherry blossoms in D.C. are a stunning sight to see and Mexico and the Caribbean tend to be warmer than a lot of the rest of the continent this time of year.
- Summer: Beware of the immense heat across the Midwest and East Coast this time of year and instead opt for the West Coast or Canada.
- Fall: Head to the East Coast or Midwest to see the jaw-dropping colors of the Fall foliage.
What to do
- Road Trip: Rent a convertible or an RV and meander your way across the continent, stopping at some of the classic locales along the way.
- Go Camping: Camping, and all that comes along with it, is one of my favorite summer activities in North America. Whether in the mountains in the West, the lakes in the Midwest, or the rolling hills in the Northeast, you can’t go wrong with a weekend off the grid spent sleeping under the stars.
- Try Out a Winter Sport: Throughout the mountain ranges in the Western U.S. and Canada, you can find some of the best winter sport conditions in the world – don’t miss out!
- Relax on a Beach: The Caribbean, California, Florida, and Mexico are all known for their beaches. Relax & unwind with your toes in the sand.
